Development of photosynthetic carbon fixation model using multi-excitation wavelength fast repetition rate fluorometry in Lake Biwa

چکیده
Direct measurements of gross primary productivity (GPP) in the water column are essential, but can be spatially and temporally restrictive. Fast repetition rate fluorometry (FRRf) is a bio-optical technique based on chlorophyll (Chl- ) fluorescence that estimate electron transport (ETR PSII at photosystem II (PSII) phytoplankton real time. However, derivation GPP carbon units from ETR remains challenging because requirement for fixation (? e,C ), which mechanistically 4 mol e ? C ?1 or above, vary depending multiple factors. In addition, FRRf studies limited freshwater lakes where phosphorus limitation cyanobacterial blooms common. The goal present study to construct robust ? model ecosystems using simultaneous by with multi-excitation wavelengths coupled traditional 13 method. was conducted oligotrophic mesotrophic parts Lake Biwa July 2018 May 2019. combination excitation light 444, 512 633 nm correctly estimated cyanobacteria. apparent range community 1.1–31.0 during period. Assessing the error in photosynthetic properties determined by fast repetition rate fluorometry
Fast repetition rate (FRR) fluorometry is an optical technique for estimating photosynthetic properties of phytoplankton from measurements of variable fluorescence yield. I determined the minimum error in such estimates contributed by inherent instrument biases, improper measurement protocols, and the type of optimization algorithm used to infer photosynthetic variability from changes in variab...
متن کاملMaximum photosynthetic efficiency of size-fractionated phytoplankton assessed by 14C uptake and fast repetition rate fluorometry
Under high nutrient concentrations and sufficient light conditions, large phytoplankton may display higher photosynthetic efficiency than smaller cells. This is unexpected since smaller phytoplankton, because of their higher surface to volume ratio, possess a greater ability to take up nutrients and absorb light. In order to investigate the causes of the increased photosynthetic efficiency in l...

We assessed nutrient limitation in the Mississippi River plume and Louisiana continental shelf during the summer of 2002 (04–08 July). We measured nutrient concentrations, alkaline phosphatase (AP) activities, chlorophyll a (Chl a) concentrations, and four fast repetition rate fluorescence (FRRF) parameters: the maximum quantum yield of photochemistry in photosystem II (PSII), Fv : Fm; the func...
